Because of their unique properties liquid crystalline materials are suitable to investigate the self-assembly of small molecules to complex structures. For this reason the subject of this work was the synthesis and the investigation of mesogens with oligo (p-phenylenethynylen) core, polar glycerole head groups and lateral alkyl chains. The thermotropic self-assembly was investigated according to variations of the alkyl chain length and a fluorination of the aromatic core. The investigation of the transition from honeycomb-structures between triangular- to square-shaped cylinders was the main aim of this thesis. All mesophases were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, polarising microscopy and X-Ray diffraction. As result different several novel complex honeycomb-like structures and cubic mesophases with tetrahedrally closed-packing (Frank-Kasper-phase) could be obtainded.
