Abstract: Distribution, biology and hostplant relations of typhlocybid leafhopper pests of medical herbs and spices in Central Europe (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae). Biology, distribution, habitat and hostplant requirements of leafhopper pests of medical herbs and spices in Central Europe are summarized on the basis of literature studies and new data. The 6 most important species are Emelyanoviana mollicula (Boh.), Sulphur Leafhopper, Eupt-eryx atropunctata (Goeze), Black-spotted Leafhopper, Eu. aurata (L.), Golden Leafhopper, Eu. florida Rib., Garden Leafhopper, Eu. melissae Curt., Balm Leafhopper and Eu. decemnotata R., Ligurian Leafhopper. The importance of Empoasca pteridis (Dhlb.), Green Potato Leafhopper, still has to be clarified. The special significance of Lamiaceae as host plants for typhlocybine leafhoppers, the role of etherial oils for host choice, biogeographic aspects, expansion histo-ry, hemerophily and its historical dynamics are discussed. The problems caused by misin-terpretations and misidentifications of many species of the genus Eupteryx according to old identification works are demonstrated. This knowledge can be used as a basis for possible pest control measures.
The Journal „Cicadina“ (formerly „Beiträge zur Zikadenkunde“) is a forum for covering the fields of ecology and biology, systematics and taxonomy as well as zoogeography and faunistics, published in German or English. It focuses on Fulgoromorpha (planthoppers), Cicadomorpha (leafhoppers) as well as on Psylloidea (jumping plant lice) and other groups which are associated systematically or ecologically. So far 17 issues and 1 supplement volume were published (see below and archive). With issue 13 (2013) the journal is an open access journal hosted by the Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (Germany).
