Der Braunkohlenbergbau bei Bennstedt im Saalekreis (Sachsen-Anhalt)

Oelke, E.: The brown coal mining near Bennstedt in the Saalekreis (Saxonia-Anhalt). - Hercynia N. F. 48 (2015): 75 – 96. Brown coal was extracted underground near Bennstedt from 1821 to 1939 by 2 trade-union mines, the mines “Sophie” and “Eintracht”. They won brown coal from 2 seams of the geological Nietleben- Bennstedt basin, an upper seam from the Lower Oligocene and a lower seam from the Upper Eocene. The mines extracted the coal with little shafts and galleries. They are supplying the local industry and the inhabitants of Bennstedt. Over all the mines near Bennstedt have extracted 2,9 Mio t brown coal. Key words: Brown coal mining, underground mining, historical development, mine “Sophie”, mine “Eintracht”
