Abstract: Gegenstand dieser Arbeit war die Synthese von Blockcopolymeren der Zusammensetzung Poly(methylmethacrylat) (PMMA)/Poly(ethylacrylat) (PEA) und PMMA/Poly(n-butylacrylat) (PnBA) mit dem Ziel der Entwicklung neuer Polymermaterialien.
Subject of this work was the synthesis of block copolymers consisting of either Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/Poly(ethylacrylate) (PEA) or PMMA/Poly(n-butylacrylate) (PnBA). The aim was the development of new polymeric materials. By the use of a controlled radical polymerization method (ATRP) well defined polymer architectures were to be obtained. The degree of branching (tri or star-block copolymer), the composition (ratio PMMA/PEA or PMMA/PnBA) and the total molecular weight were varied. It was aimed to obtain narrow molecular weight distributions (Polydispersity (PD) The produced samples were to be analyzed in regard to their molecular (SEC-LS, 1H-NMR) and thermal properties (DSC). Microphase separation was confirmed by means of AFM on selected samples. The occurrence of spherical and lamellar structures was found for the PMMA-PnBA-PMMA tri- and star-block copolymers at the expected values of the composition. Furthermore a substantial goal for this work was to examine the obtained block copolymers towards an potential use as polymeric materials. This was done by stress-strain experiments. Besides the mechanical properties of the pure block copolymers their e_ectiveness as component in a polymer blend was of high interest. Therefor these were blended with the commercial PMMA Plexiglas R° Formmasse 7N (Degussa/Röhm GmbH). The ability to improve the impact resistance was investigated by the means of the instrumented Charpy impact test.
