Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass diese beiden Weizenimportmärkte vollkommen wettbewerbsfähig sind.; Starting from the 2000s, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine (KRU), also known as non-traditional wheat exporters joined into the world wheat market as important exporters. As a result, the world wheat market became more competitive. As the market shares of the KRU wheat exporters are increasing, and they have potentials for the further growth, their pricing behaviours are becoming influential for some countries. Therefore, three different models were applied to investigate the price discriminating and market power issues. The first study uses pricing to market model to examine whether the KRU exporters are able to exercise price discrimination in most destinations. The results show that KRU wheat exporters are able to price discriminate only in few importing countries. The second study applies residual demand elasticity approach to investigate whether Kazakh and Russian wheat exporters have market powers in the South Caucasus region. It is concluded that Kazakhstan in Georgian market, while Russia in Armenian and Georgian markets have market powers. But neither Kazakh, nor Russian exporters have market powers in the Azerbaijani wheat market. The third study applies new empirical industrial organisation approach to examine the degree of market imperfection in the Azerbaijani and Georgian wheat import markets. The results demonstrate that both Azerbaijani and Georgian wheat import markets are perfectly competitive.2018-01-01T00:00:00ZThe great recession and its effects on monetary policyDany-Knedlik, Geraldinehttps://opendata.uni-halle.de//handle/1981185920/136132023-12-06T13:34:27Z2018-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: The great recession and its effects on monetary policy

Since the global financial crisis, monetary economics new questions include the explanation and response to unusual consumer price developments but also the interdependencies between financial markets and real economic activity and its implication for the monetary policy transmission mechanism. This dissertation investigates these questions by presenting empirical evidence that accounts for non-linearities of the relevant economic relations. The first and second chapters examine inflation dynamics of the Euro area and ASEAN-5 economies using non-linear Phillips curve models. The results suggest that changes in inflation processes are mainly driven by the development of long-term inflation expectations. The third chapter investigates the evolution of the financial accelerator (FA) taking into account the developments of the financial sector. The results of a time-varying structural vector autoregressive model indicate that the FA effect for the USA has increased from the early 1990s.2018-01-01T00:00:00ZIncentive effects in ecological fiscal transfers - evidence based foundations for policy adviceDroste, Nilshttps://opendata.uni-halle.de//handle/1981185920/90472023-12-06T10:16:47Z2018-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Incentive effects in ecological fiscal transfers - evidence based foundations for policy advice

Damit erbringt die Dissertation eine evidenzbasierte Grundlage für Politikempfehlungen hinsichtlich der Gestaltung ökologischer Finanzausgleichsysteme.; This dissertation analyses incentive effects in ecological fiscal transfers for the designation of protected areas. The potential of ecological fiscal transfers to set such fiscal incentives for nature conservation is displayed through a microeconomic model that generates testable hypothesis. Corresponding empirical evidence of an incentive effect is provided by panel data regressions and time series analyses of existing ecological fiscal transfer systems in Brazil and Portugal. Moreover, three tangible proposals for potential adaptations of the instrument to federal, supra-national, and global levels are developed through quantitative simulations that take the specifics of the institutional frameworks into account. Thereby, this dissertation provides an evidence based foundation for policy advice for the design of ecological fiscal transfer systems.2018-01-01T00:00:00ZInnovation performance in China - innovation systems, market structure and state ownershipKou, Kouhttps://opendata.uni-halle.de//handle/1981185920/89552023-12-06T10:23:30Z2017-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Innovation performance in China - innovation systems, market structure and state ownership

The transition of China has changed almost all fields of China’s economy. However, due to demographic changes and rising labor costs, the high growth phase of China is almost coming to an end. An innovation-driven development pattern has settled upon as the target of China’s government. The core question of the work is: Which factors of innovation systems, market structure and state ownership influence the innovation performance of China? With respect to the innovation performance of provinces, we find that regional innovation systems play an essential role. Market-oriented institutional arrangements increase innovation performance. At the industrial level, there is an inverted-U relationship between market concentration and innovation output. As for the effect of ownership relationship, the impact of state ownership on innovation performance depends on a number of conditions. More precisely, state control of firms has a negative impact on innovation output in particular in China’s Northeast region and in mid- and high-tech sectors whereas under other circumstances it does either not matter or can even exert a positive influence.2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
