| Abstract: | Predicting the dynamic behavior of rotor systems with hydrodynamic bearings requires a careful consideration of the nonlinear fluid-structure interaction. This is accomplished by transient rotordynamic simulations relying on time-integration schemes and incorporating the Reynolds equation to account for the hydrodynamic forces. Solving the Reynolds equation numerically at every time step entails a considerable computational effort, but faster approaches based on simplified analytical models or on database methods often do not provide the desired accuracy.
In the work at hand, a semi-analytical solution based on the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) is proposed as an alternative, aiming to achieve a fast but accurate computation. The pressure field is discretized along the circumferential coordinate, while the axial direction is treated analytically. Several algorithms, using different cavitation assumptions, are presented and verified. The developed approach is applied in transient simulations of exemplary rotor-bearing systems and is compared to standard numerical models. |
