Abstract: Biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE) is an important packaging material for enabling monomaterial packaging systems that combine strong barrier and mechanical properties. Compared with blown films, BOPE films produced by biaxial drawing typically exhibit superior mechanical strength and barrier performance. In this mini-review, the technology, raw materials, standard processing conditions, packaging advantages, and remaining challenges of BOPE are reviewed and summarized. The aim is to provide a comprehensive literature reference that facilitates communication between academia and industry for the production of BOPE films, as well as for potential future packaging solutions.
