Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse-Elastrography (ARFI) and Zone Speed Index (ZSI) are ultrasound based techniques to evaluate the stiffness of liver tissue. The aim was to compare the applicability of both methods in children and adolescents. 109 healthy and 39 children (3 to 18 years old) with known liver disease were examined. Measurements were obtained at three measuring sites in transversal and longitudinal transducer orientation. Measurements in anterior axillary line in transversal orientation showed the lowest scattering. (ARFI 1,21 m/ and ZSI 30 m/s in healthy individuals). An elevated BMI resulted in significantly lower ZSI-velocities. ARFI and ZSI-measurements were increased in children and adolescents suffering from fibrotic liver disease.eng
