CMG2 was identified as a significant prognostic factor in soft tissue sarcoma. The influence of CMG2-mRNA-expression on the diagnosis and prognosis in oral carcinomas has not been investigated yet. No difference was found in CMG2-mRNA-expression between tumor tissue and normal tissue. CMG2 is not a discriminating biomarker for the presence of oral carcinoma cells. Patients with high CMG2-mRNA-expression have an increased relative risk of 1.96 to die early, low levels of CMG2 have a slight tendency for longer survival in the first 42 months which is not statistically significant. There are positive correlations between CMG2-mRNA-expressions and the mRNA-expression of the hypoxia-induced factor 1α and the expression of a CMG2 splice variant B, a negative correlation to the mRNA-expression of Piwi-like 1. The mechanistic relationship has not been described yet.
