N, R.; ARNDT, 0.: Regional Types ofLand Use and Reference Values for the Biotope Network in the Agricultural Areas of Saxony-Anhalt.- Hercynia N.F. 33 (2000): 43-61. On the basis of the Iandscape structure as laid down in the "Landscape Programme" ( 1994) Iandscape units were defined according to land use whereby municipal land use statistics facilitated the quantification of the Iandscape units. The 38 Iandscape units of the Landscape Programme (without urban and mining areas) are juxtaposed by 56 Iandscape units differing in use. This characterization resulted in regional land use types as planning categories. They comprise in Saxony-Anhalt: 1. F orest areas 2. Forest and grassland areas 3. Forestand cropping areas 4. Cropping areas with grassland and forests 5. Cropping areas with forests 6. Cropping areas 7. Grassland with cropping areas 8. Cropland with grassland areas 9. Grassland areas The term compounded with 'areas' indicates the dominating type ofuse. The above given typification is supplemented by urban and mining areas. The target va!ues for the biotope network in the agricultural regions of Saxony-Anhalt are based on the official Regional Land Use Types in order to guarantee area-specific grouping inspite of partially still insufficient data availability. The reference values contain both the present area of near-natural and seminatural biotopes in the farmscapes and the areas needed for ensuring certain structural proportions in entire Saxony-Anhalt. The latter vary between 7.5% for cropland and more than 15 % for high-structured farmscapes, particularly in regions with high grassland portions. Keywords: Sachsen-Anhalt, Landschaftsgliederung, Bodennutzungstypen, Biotopverbund, Richtwerte, Agrarraumger
