Mania, D.; Altermann, M.: Geology of the Lower Palaeolithic find horizon of Bilzingsleben (Thuringia) and the anthropogenous aspect. – Hercynia N.F. 38 (2005): 143 – 184.The Lower Palaeolithic find horizon of Bilzingsleben lies at the base of a Middle Pleistocene travertin sequence (Holstein-complex: sequence Bilzingsleben II). The abundance of cultural remains of Homo erectus and of his fossil remains rendered it so important, beyond regional boundaries. An open-air camp was excavated found on the terrace of a small lake. The results of the geological, geomorphological, palaeontological and archaeological-cultural investigations are represented, important for the assessment of the origin and development and the state of preservation of the find horizon. It would be demonstrated that the life traces of man as well as a major part of the cultural material on the former living floor are still in primary situation. The cultural influence plays an important pat in the geological assessment of the sediments with the archaeological material embedded there.eng
