Aim of this descriptive study was the characterization of myalgia in patients with well-defined muscle disease. The pressure pain detection threshold (PPDT) was determined by algesiemetry in patients and controls. In addition to demographic information, known prediagnosis were collected, so as information on myalgia localization ans pain character. Hospital Anxiety Depression scale (HADS) was used to assess for depression and anxiety symptoms. Pain sensation was ranked according to the visual analogue scale. The majority of patients described myalgia in two localizations. Interestingly, all patients named to have myalgia in the lower extremities. The measurement of PPDT showed a significant difference between patients and controls. The majority of patients showed normal results in HADS evaluation. The PPDT decreases in both, patients and controls with age. 1/3 of the patients included into this study were diagnosed according to their symptoms with muscular pain-fasciculation syndrome.eng
