Die Bedeutung von Volkshochschulen für die Sprachförderung von Migrant*innen

Abstract

Die Bachelorarbeit thematisiert die Bedeutung von Volkshochschulen für die Sprachförderung von Migrant*innen. Ziel ist die Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage „Welche Funktionen erfüllen Volkshochschulen im Jahr 2023 bei der Sprachförderung von Migrant*innen durch allgemeine Integrationskurse?“. Zudem liegen der Bachelorarbeit zwei wesentliche Hypothesen zugrunde. Zum einen wird die Annahme vertreten, dass Volkshochschulen durch ihr Integrationskursangebot einen maßgeblichen Teil zur Förderung der gesellschaftlichen Teilhabe von Migrant*innen in Deutschland beitragen. Zum anderen basiert die Arbeit auf der These, dass Sprache ein essenzieller Grundbaustein für den Zugang zu Bildung und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe ist. Um die Forschungsfrage zu beantworten und die Hypothesen zu überprüfen, wird die literaturbasierte Analysemethode „Literature Review“ verwendet. Insbesondere werden Publikationen des „Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge“ und des „Deutschen Volkshochschul-Verbands e.V.“ betrachtet. Anhand der inhaltlichen Analyse konnten fünf Funktionen der Volkshochschulen im Kontext der Fragestellung festgestellt werden: Volkshochschulen fungieren als Anbieter für Integrationskurse, fördern die gesellschaftliche Teilhabe, agieren als Wertevermittler, unterstützen den interkulturellen Austausch und verfügen über eine beratende und unterstützende Funktion. Die ermittelten Funktionsbereiche geben Aufschluss darüber, wie bedeutungsvoll die Institution Volkshochschule für die sprachliche Bildung und den Teilhabeprozess von Migrant*innen ist.

The bachelor thesis discusses the importance of adult education centres in promoting language skills for migrants. It aims to answer the question: “Which functions do adult education centres fulfill for migrants in 2023 through language support in integration courses?” Two essential hypotheses underlie the bachelor’s thesis. On the one hand, it is assumed that adult education centres contribute significantly to promoting the social participation of migrants in Germany through their integration courses. On the other hand, the paper is also based on the assumption that language is fundamental for access to education and participation. To answer the question and to test the hypotheses, the literature-based analysis method “literature review” is used. In particular, publications from the „Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge“ and the „Deutscher Volkshochschul-Verband e.V.“ are examined. Based on the content analysis, five main functions of adult education centres could be determined: adult education centres offer integration courses, promote the participation of migrants, function as value mediators, support intercultural communication, and provide consulting services. The identified functions provide insight into how important adult education centres are for the linguistic education and participation process of migrants.
