The realization of control systems for the stabilization of motor vehicles in critical driving situations requires the determination of various control variables and parameters, for example, of tire slip or the coefficient of adhesion between tire and road. Due to measurement restrictions or to save costs, real sensors are often replaced by state estimators or observers. Based on the definition of functional requirements, such a state and parameter estimator for vehicle dynamics is developed and validated within the scope of this thesis. This estimator is able to automatically adapt to different road conditions by means of an adaptive tire model. Model- and optimization-based methods are used for development and validation. Utilizing a Model-in-the-Loop simulation, the pre-development and a first validation including an investigation of the robustness with regard to unmodelled disturbance variables are carried out using a virtual reference vehicle. The approach is then transferred to a real vehicle, where it is implemented on a rapid control prototyping ECU and a Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation with real test data. Finally, the state and parameter estimator is validated as an application example together with a tire slip control within the scope of another Model-in-the-Loop simulation.
