Elias, D.; Thiede, S.: Transfer of grasshoppers (Insecta: Ensifera et Caelifera) with fresh mowing material in the Wulfener Bruch (Saxony-Anhalt). – Hercynia N.F. 41 (2008): 253 -262.This article gives information about an experiment with marked grasshoppers which was accomplished during a hay transfer in the Wulfener Bruch (Saxony-Anhalt) in August 2007. On the donor site 153 Individuals of 8 grasshopper species were marked with reflective tape (3M, Scotchlite). During nightly controls 11 living mature individuals were recaptured on the receptor site. This corresponds to a transfer rate of 7.2 %. It is concluded that the transfer of mowing material can play an important role for the dispersal and settlement of less mobile grasshopper species and sexes in fragmented landscapes with few migration corridors. If the transfer is handled carefully, it is possible to transport adult and juvenile grasshoppers as well as grasshopper-eggs besides the plant diaspores, what enhances the nature-orientated restoration method. For an improvement under faunistic aspects, it is recommended to place the mowing material staggered over several years on adjacent sites. Thus grasshoppers, which are transferred two or three years after the first application of mowing material, will find suitable vegetation structures and habitat conditions on the receptor site.eng
