Abstract: The following thesis tries to evaluate the Rückführungsverbesserungsgesetz (repatriation improvement law), that came into force at the start of 2024, from a social workers perspective, focusing on the changes affecting deportation detention. The thesis begins with an analysis of the historical context of german migration laws and the evolution of deportation detention in Germany. After that the thesis focuses on the current situation in refugee camps and deportation detentions by analysing three different qualitative studies that focused on the realities of asylum seekers in Germany. This is followed by an analysis of the new changes within the RüFüVerG and statements of multiple NGOs referring to those changes. At the end the thesis combines the results of the former analysis with different relevant theories of social work and tries to complete the social worker's perspective on the RüFüVerG. Here by it emphasizes the duty of social work to actively engage in public discourse, include an antirascist agenda in its selfdefinition, and develop strategies in cooperation with volunteers and activist groups that guarantee the usage of all possible means to help those who are in danger of deportation or deportation detention.
