The aim of this research is to develop a methodology for the predictive 1D - thermal management simulation of the water jacket for internal combustion engines. The models should provide reliable information about the thermal behavior of the cooling circuit in the engine without great configuration effort. The aim is to make optical PIV measurements in the water cycle on the crankcase of a test engine. Furthermore, engine test bench measurements be performed with focus on the thermal behavior. Based on the CAD - data and the measurements, 3D - CFD simulations are to be set up, calibrated and validated. In addition, methods for the 1D - discretization will be developed. These include boundary and transition conditions, determination of sub models, validation of models and analysis of results. For the methods developed, the scope should be examined and determined. The methods for boundary conditions, transition conditions, discretization, model specification, choice of sub models are formulated and applied to a motor. The result of the work will be a simplification for the 1D - modeling of the cooling water jacket simulation of the internal combustion engine. The work is a guide to the procedure in the modeling process. It will pick up and point out important focal points and sensitive areas in the modeling process. The result will be a time reduction in the development of thermal management models for 1D - simulation, as well as minimizing the necessary modeling skills.
