Abstract: Two nature reserve near Halle with dry grasslands on limestone and porphyry were studied by pitfall trapping.11 species of centipedes and 11 species of millipedes were found. Most of these are characteristic for habitats sparsely covered with vegetation. The majority ofthe recorded diplopod species tend to migrate, and can occur in large numbers, i. e. Cylindroiulus caeruleocinctus, Ommatoiulus sabulosus and Megaphyllum unilineatum. The requirements of the species on the habitat are explained and an attempt is made to clarify the decisive factors for the choice of the habitat. The catching frequency ofthe species show the well-known annual courses. Remarkable is O. sabulosus with a maximum of activity during the summ er months.
