Abstract: In the open-cast mining flooded by the river Mulde near the town of Bitterfeld (Sachsen-Anhalt) an aquaticmollusc fauna with 17 species of gastropods and 11 species of bivalves has established over a time of 21 years.This species-community represents a concentration of the molluscan fauna common for this region, however,with the unexpected occurrance of some important and rare Species. It consists of Species from refugial watersand developed in connection with the improvement of the water quality in the region. The molluscan fauna is aimportant reserve for the further expansion of species.
