Abstract: Wilhelm Roux (1850-1924), der Begründer der Entwicklungsmechanik, wurde im Jahr 1895 Direktor des Anatomischen Institutes in Halle.
Wilhelm Roux (1850-1924) was the founder of the developmental biology and in the year 1895 he became the director of the Anatomical Institute in Halle. With it started one of the most important phases for the institute and for the professional development of Roux himself. Changes of the building inside and outside took place during his directorship and changes of research and didactic play too. Roux initiated a new stage in the field of anatomy by the integration of developmental mechanics and questions of causality and morphology. Because of the research and professorship of Roux the Anatomical Institute in Halle became the centre of the developmental mechanics where the "Wilhelm-Roux-collection" took place for some years. He published the results of his experimental researches numerous, among other things at his "archives of developmental mechanics" which still exists today with another name. Roux gave his name also for the "Wilhelm-Roux-program" of the university of Halle, for the "Wilhelm-Roux-award" and was a member of bodies of the university, the Leopoldina and many institutions in Germany and foreign countries. The already existing literature contains mainly facts about the researches of Roux. This thesis focuses additional on the teachings, the scientific occupation and the personal life of Roux. Nearly 30 years Roux spended in Halle and his activity and his personality justified him to a special position among the anatomists of Halle.
