Abstract: This work deals with the concept of appropriateness (Angemessenheit) within § 3 of the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG), aimed at preventing human rights violations. The term serves as a measure for assessing the extent to which companies must carry out the development, implementation, and adjustment of actions concerning the protection of human rights within the supply chain. The work is composed of a research to gather information published by the legislator, affected companies, and other relevant interest groups. This information is summari-sed to provide a clear overview of the current state of knowledge. The results indicate that the current state of knowledge is heavily theoretical, and due to the recency of the law, practical insights are limited. However, the choice of termi-nology is deliberate and serves the purpose of creating a balance between preserving human rights and the workload imposed on affected companies. Furthermore, miles-tones are mentioned that will create new research foundations, with the implementa-tion of a supply chain law for the entire European Union emerging as the most signi-ficant and relevant milestone. Overall, the work represents an initial contribution to the understanding of appropria-teness within the LkSG and serves as a basis for further research, especially regar-ding the upcoming milestones.
