Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) is a soil-dwelling, obligate aerobic high GC Gram-positive bacterium with a complex life cycle including three different stages (substrate mycelium, aerial mycelium and spores). Moreover it is known for a well-marked extracellular biology – especially its secondary metabolite production (e.g. antibiotics). Remarkably for an obligate aerobe, S. coelicolor A3(2) survive a couple of weeks under anoxic conditions as spore as well as mycelium. Due to three putative respiratory nitrate reductases (Nar), which were encoded in the genome, it seemed to be possible that an anaerobic respiration with nitrate contributes the anaerobic survival. In this dissertation it is shown for all three Nar-enzymes in which developmental stages and under which conditions they are synthesized and active. Therefore new developmented methods were used.eng
