The aim of the present study is to investigate whether an alternative method for bleaching and oxidizing of crude montan wax with chrome (VI) can be investigated. As an economically priced oxidizing agent only hydrogen peroxide is able to oxidize the wax alcohols and bleach the wax. In the patent (DRP 493593) it was shown, that the bleaching of montane wax only occurs when the wax was emulsified in sulphuric acid. Furthermore, it has been found that by using a catalyst (12 - tungstophosphoric acid ), the reaction time can be significantly reduced. But without a post-bleaching by sodium dichromate no satisfactory results in the form of an acid wax can be achieved. This study shows that it is possible to replace 2/3 of the generally used amount of chrome (VI) by a hydrogen peroxide pre treatment and furthermore it is possible to fulfill this task within technically feasible test durations.eng
