Bone reconstructions performed during general clinical practice are of limited use for preclinical research, education, and training purposes. Virtual bone models facilitate finding solutions to clinical and anatomic questions through computer-supported analysis. CT and MRI data sets were post-processed using Amira® 5.2 software. In each cut, bone structures were isolated using semiautomatic labeling program codes. The software then generated precise 3D bone models in STL format (standard triangulated language). This postdoctoral thesis comprises morphologic studies and investigations of the biomechanical characteristics of the bone in complex anatomic regions based on virtual bone models. This involves the anatomical conditions of the posterior pelvic ring regarding secure sacroiliac screw fixation, the work with a database constructing three-dimensional virtual bone models, a method of a computer-assisted planning for surgical placement of a new bone conduction hearing device and virtual evaluation of the femoroacetabular impingement.
