The immobilization of Cu(I) particles on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) has been accomplished via both, the “ex situ hybridization” and the “in situ crystallization” method. The most active catalysts with the potential for a larger scale production had been chosen for copper(I) alkyne-azide “click” (CuAAC) crosslinking reactions/polymerizations and the production of resin/graphene nanocomposites. The CuAAC crosslinking reactions between trivalent azide and alkyne moieties using thermally reduced GO Cu(I)-oxide nanocatalysts (TRGO-Cu2O) prepared by “in situ crystallization” were investigated through in situ DSC and in situ melt-rheology measurements. It was proven that 4 wt% (0.5 mol% per functional group) TRGO-Cu2O reduced the time and the temperature required for an efficient crosslinking significantly. A resin/graphene composite with highly dispersed graphene nanoparticles, improved physical properties such as mechanical stiffness and electric conductivity efficiently.eng
