Zum Vorkommen der Gartenspitzmaus Crocidura suaveolens (Pallas, 1811) in Sachsen-Anhalt

(2008): Distribution of the Lesser White-toothed Shrew Crocidura suaveolens (Pallas, 1811) in Saxony-Anhalt. – Hercynia N.F. 41 (2008): 135 –141.The paper presents the current state of knowledge on the distribution of the Lesser white-toothed shrew Crocidura suaveolens in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt (Germany), based on the examination of owl pellets and coincidental catches. Since the first records of C. suaveolens in this region in the 1980s an expansion of its range in north-westward direction took place. Currently there are distribution centres in the areas around Stendal, Jessen-Wittenberg and the southern part of Saxony-Anhalt, whereas the foreland of the Harz mountains as well as the western and north-western parts of Saxony-Anhalt are not inhabited by the species. Based on the low frequency in owl pellets a sketchy occurrence in this area on the distribution boundary of the species has to be assumed.
