The building sector is responsible for more than 40% of whole energy consumption of Europe. The usual methods to improve of the heat insulation of honeycomb bricks are the optimization of the brick geometry, lower thermal conductivity for the clay Material and additional filling of the hollow cavities with insulating materials. For the specific reduction of the heat radiation in the hollow cavities there are up to now only a few investigations. It could be shown that the emission coefficient of brick surfaces can be decreased by special coatings up to ε = 0.35. As a result the equivalent thermal conductivity is decreased about 10% to 30% by coating of honeycomb bricks. Additional it can be shown that it is possible by use of the Finite element method to calculate the heat insulation, as well as the sound transmission of honeycomb bricks depending on geometry and clay material.
