Abstract: Weichel, T.; Neumeister, H.: Investigations of sediment- and nutrient input in the Kelbra reservoir. - Hercynia N.F. 37 (2004): 5–17.The study describes the consequences of an over 30-years use of the Kelbra reservoir. Caused by long term land use changes with high intensity, a heavy polluted artificial flat lake can be found. The situation was already forecasted in his conception by Tümpling (1959). The major objective of the investigation was the localisation of sources and sinks of eutrophication. Diffuse output of nutrients in the catchment of the Kelbra reservoir is an important emission source of the process. Using a conceptual model for soil erosion forecast, areas with high potential of nutrient output were located. Due to water bound transport processes solids and nutrients were deposited in the reservoir. Changes of the bottom were documented by three time intervals. Despite spatial differentiation of elevation changes, a limitation of flood retention space couldn’t be determined. Through geochemical analysis (phosphorous, nitrogen) the effectivity of deposits for eutrophication was evaluated. Both, the highest concentration of nutrients near by the surface and a distinct pattern of their spatial distribution could be estimated.
