The aim of the present study was to examine the SIMODONT Dental Trainer, a simulator for the training of dental procedures, as a teaching module and grading system for dental education. The three groups of subjects (dentistry students of the first and fifth year of study at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, as well as licensed dentists) each completed five practical tasks on the simulator and subsequently evaluated it using a questionnaire. The evaluation of the results was done with SPSS version 24. The simulator has generally been accepted and appreciated as an additional training module in education. The simulator is also able to differentiate between beginners and experienced users. Existing experiences with computer and video games do not have a significant impact on the performance of the practical tests. The SIMODONT Dental Trainer is a suitable teaching module for dental training. Based on the simulator different experience levels can be differentiated. The simulator should primarily find its integration into teaching in the preclinical area.
