This work of research originates from the idea that, German essayists of the war periods and of the years between the two wars (1916–1946) have significantly contributed to the Unity of Europe, especially to the deconstruction or the overcoming of nationalism in the consciences of Europeans and to the building vision of cultural identity in Europe. The contributions of these essayists can help Europeans to change their mentalities from national to European thinking, to build up a vision of a cultural Identity in the context of unity and to no longer to be only considered as Germans, Frenchmen, Italians, or British, etc., but to be merely considered as real Europeans too, who actually want to defeat cultural conflicts and dream of cultural meeting in Europe. Beyond this idea, the following research questions are the token of appreciation in this project: how are nationalism, nation and patriotism are considered in Europe? How does the German literature contribute to the deconstruction of European nationalisms? (What are the argumentative strategies of these German essayists that help in assuring the Europe-idea in the consciences? What are the various models proposed by the authors in order to build up a common unity in Europe? How the various discourses held by these essayists about Europe help Europeans to build up a vision of a cultural identity in the unity context today? That is, the cultural identity entities are profoundly examined with an African perspective and proposed to Europe. Because of the hypothesis of deconstruction of nationalism and a vision of cultural identity building, the social aspect cannot be absent in this project, that is the reason why Marc Angenot‘s social discourse analysis would be called on as a theory and method of approach in this work, for the hegemonic tendencies and ideologies of the various selected authors are related to Europe.
